Designed by Francesca Lanzavecchia for Foscarini, Allumette is a chandelier that reinterprets the traditional Venetian arm chandelier by freeing it from symmetry. The result is a light, dynamic and surprising figure, a striking presence that turns any interior into a stage of light and reflections. Combining an engineering approach with a poetic vision, the designer plays on the contrast between the rigorous geometry of the metal arms and the softness of the textile cables that power them.
Varying in length and angle, the arms branch out asymmetrically from a central body. The resulting composition, in dynamic balance, changes with every viewpoint. Made of steel and aluminium, the structure seems to defy gravity with its apparent instability, yet it is perfectly balanced. Exposed welds reveal the complexity and quality of its construction. Hung in the centre of a room or above a rectangular or round table, it fits naturally into contemporary living spaces and contract projects. It comes in white, an eye-catching blue, and grey paired with burgundy cables.
Its name, meaning "matchstick" in French, evokes a spark that brings the space to life. Once switched on, Allumette reveals its magic: at the end of each arm, an LED board, easy to maintain and replace, is topped by a clear, brilliant cylinder. Light travels invisibly through it and emerges only at its etched, satin-finished tip, like a series of small suspended flames. Directed upwards, it spreads across the ceiling before softly returning into the room.
